Each day we sit in front of screens for hours, only to go home and sit in front of more screens. We have cars to drive us to work, home and shopping, we have escalators, elevators and moving sidewalks to carry us from place to place meanwhile we complain we don’t have time to exercise.
Doctors tell us it’s easy to get exercise everyday just by doing simple things like parking farther away from the door and taking the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator but who really wants to take the stairs anyway?
In Stockholm, Sweden a group of people from thefuntheory.com decided to test a theory “Can we get more people to take the stairs over the escalator by making it fun to do?”
They converted a staircase at the Odenplan subway plaza into a working piano keyboard (similar to the toy store keyboard in the Tom Hanks movie “Big). So what did they discover? Sixty-six percent more people took the stairs over the escalators after the keyboard steps were installed. Kids even left the subway smiling after taking the stairs – when have you ever seen that happen!
Check out the video and ask yourself which would I take the Stairs or the Escalator?
