Western Digital Acquires Hitachi

I’ve always liked Hitachi laptop hard drives and found them superior to Western Digital, Seagate or Samsung.  Western Digital recently purchased Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and the resulting new company will retain the Western Digital Brand Name.

It looks like the industry is slowly shifting to Solid State Storage devices such as SSD drives which are becoming more popular for their speed and reliability.  The new Apple OSX Lion Operating System has been customized for SSD storage devices.

So with Western Digital’s take over of Hitachi and Seagate’s recent acquisition of Samsung it looks like there’s only going to be two major players moving forward in the Global Storage Hard Drive market ….  Seagate or Western Digital?
