FishEyes Rod, Reel and Underwater Video Camera System

If you’re over 40 like me you remember the Ronco Pocket Fisherman infomercials back in the late 70’s and early 80’s.  The FishEyes Rod and Reel combo is a modern day reincarnation of the Ronco Pocket Fisherman with the addition of a underwater video camera and LCD monitor built into the rod and reel.  Now lets be serious for a minute here, the Ronco pocket fisherman was not a serious fishing rod but it did work and I remember as a kid one of my cousins catching fish using the pocket fisherman.

The FishEyes Rod and Reel with underwater video camera is a Novelty item for sure but it also does work albeit in a limited capacity.  The underwater video camera comes complete with an LED light so you can see in low light and murky water conditions.  The reel comes pre-spooled with 25’ of a special line which carries the video signal from the underwater camera back to the LCD monitor.  The monitor is color and low res with a removable sun shade and runs on 4 AA batteries.  The camera has a lure line attachment and Bait Baskets which are advertised to attract fish to the viewing area.  There is no weight rating on the fishing line so we have know idea if it is a 2-3lb test line or 5-8-14 lb?  One thing is for certain if the line breaks that’s it for the rod and reel and video camera.

As a novelty the FishEyes Rod and Reel is great for kids and fishermen of all ages who want to get a look at the water and area conditions within 25’ of your boat.  As a real or serious fishing device the FishEyes Rod, Reel and underwater camera has serious limitations.  At $80 the FishEyes rig is not cheap but your kids will love it and have loads of fun fishing even if they don’t catch a thing.

Who knew the Ronco Pocket fishermen would be revived in the year 2011 with the addition of a low res video camera,  What’s next a high tech Laser Ginsu Knife!
